In my mind the setting is analogous to the show except as humans in a realistic setting with minor fantasy elements and with civic institutions replaced with military ones. The tech level and about 1960s but with some psychic-based magic. The culture is female-dominated but is largely egalitarian. Citizens are encouraged to develop their personal talents to support the state. The country is the Principality of Equestria and the government is a constitutional monarchy with militaristic fascist policies. The military is a called the Equestrian Royal Armed Forces, with two branches called the Ground Forces and the Air Forces that share the same rank structure. There are also quasimilitary secret police agency
Equestria is at war with as as yet unnamed foreign country which would be like the Soviet Union. There are also various criminal and terrorist groups in the neighboring countries (the mythological creatures).
Certain people are born with psychic talents, while others have enhanced physical abilities like reflexes or strength.
